Dimitri Payet comments on ‘lethal’ West Ham striker Andy Carroll

Payet sounds excited by the prospect of linking up with West Ham teammate Andy Carroll.

Speaking to the Standard, Dimitri Payet heaped praise on West Ham teammate Andy Carroll, who he hopes to create chances for this coming season.

He said: “I’m usually a No10 and the thing I most enjoy is helping my team-mates and creating goal-scoring chances for them. Andy Carroll is lethal in the area and, if good crosses come into him, he usually puts them away. He’s a fantastic finisher — he has a very good left foot and is a great header of the ball. All he needs is the service.”

Payet was signed by the Hammers this summer from Marseille, having enjoyed a highly prolific season in Ligue 1. He registered 17 assists across the 2014/15 campaign - the fourth highest in Europe’s top five leagues - whilst his 135 goalscoring chances created was the highest tally across all those leagues.

He is one of the marquee signings made by West Ham to oversee their passage into top Premier League side, and Payet’s main job this season will be creating.

The Hammers had mixed fortunes in the striking department last term, with Diafra Sakho excelling in front of goal, whilst Andy Carroll and Enner Valencia both had solid spells, but also missed much of the season through injury.

Sakho had his own injury problems, and Carroll is still out of action, but that has not stopped Payet looking forward to playing alongside the English forward.

The French intentional believes he is a great finisher, and they could become a fearsome partnership for the Hammers next season, if both players perform to the best of their abilities.
