The former PSV man joined in a £14.5 million deal last week.
‘He’s a good player and he likes to be on the ball and he’s good offensively,” said Janmaat.
But he is also strong and can help defensively, so he’s quite a (versatile) player. He can play a couple positions, so he can be a good contributor for the team.”
Wijnaldum has added to the Dutch contingent already at Newcastle and Janmaat has experience of the new signing from his time with the national team.
“He’s a good guy. I know him well and he really wants to work hard - he could be good for us.”
The Toon army will be excited by the prospect of the former PSV captain and his presence in the Newcastle midfield could be vital, as the club set about building a more competitive squad.
A midfield three of Wijnaldum, Colback and Sissoko looks to have the makings of a great combination, although it is unclear as to what system Steve McClaren will employ next season.
Irrespective of the system around him, the 24-year old has all the tools to become the Magpies' main man next season and kick-start the turnaround in Newcastle's fortunes.
