According to reports from Asturian based newspaper La Nueva España, 19-year-old defender Julio Rodriguez, is heading to England for trials with Crystal Palace.
The young centre-back is looking for playing opportunities and heading to London, he hopes to find them with Crystal Palace, with the blessing of Sporting Gijon, who return to La Liga this season after spending three years outside the Spanish top-flight.
The official Sporting Gijon website also announced the move, highlighting that the Spain Under-19 international will spend a number of days with The Eagles, aiming to demonstrate his talents are worthy of consideration.
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, Julio certainly has the size and physical build to compete in English football, whilst he also possesses good technical ability.
A product of the prolific youth system at Sporting Gijon, Julio has only made two first-team appearances so far, both in the Copa del Rey. The first was against Recreativo de Huelva in September 2013, whilst the second was against Real Valladolid in September 2014.
Since breaking through from the youth system, Julio has principally represented the Sporting Gijon B team in Group 1 of the Segunda B4, making a total of 51 appearances over the last three seasons, according to Spanish football statistics side, BDFutbol.
