Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, in quotes carried by the Evening Standard, believes Gabriel Paulista, who joined the club for £11.3 million from Villarreal in January, as reported by the Express, will be a 'revelation' in his first full season in English football.
Following his New Year arrival from Spain, the Brazilian made just six Premier League appearances for the Gunners as Wenger continued to favour Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker. However, the French head coach appears ready to expose the Brazilian to regular first-team action next term, based on recent comments at least.
Certain that there is even more to come from the 24-year-old next season, Wenger said, as per the Evening Standard: “We bought well in the transfer market [last season], and all those players had a good impact. I also think Gabriel will be a revelation.
“He didn't have many chances this season, but I am convinced he will be a top player. We will see more of him next season.”
What Gabriel Paulista offers
During his brief experience of first-team action, Gabriel averaged more defensive actions than any other player at the Emirates. In total, he weighed in with 43 clearances, 19 interceptions and five blocks - a significant feat for a player adjusting to the pace of the English game.
Clearly when the Brazilian did play, he was hugely impressive, which can only be positive for the Emirates faithful. If Wenger is willing to give the 24-year-old an extended run in the first-team throughout the upcoming campaign, the club are likely to reap the rewards.
With Petr Cech between the sticks and a defensive partnership of Gabriel and Koscielny ahead of him, the Gunners would prove a formidable defensive force.
