Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Alan Brazil suggested on his breakfast show for talkSPORT, that he doesn’t expect his old side to finish above Liverpool in the coming season.
Brazil suggested that it’s going to be difficult for Tottenham to reproduce the sort of season they enjoyed last year, which saw them finish in fifth place, as the closest challenges to the top four in the Premier League.
His prediction could be to do with the spending and new signings that Liverpool have already made, but it’s dangerous to write off a team like Tottenham who enjoy good support and a club with some extremely talented players.
What have Tottenham got going for them in the race for the top four?
Arguably, the biggest benefit Tottenham possess moving forward is the fact that Mauricio Pochettino is approaching his second season in charge.
He’s had a year to get to know the club and his key players and there’s no settling in period, which he’ll have to battle through over the next few weeks.
He’ll have new ideas and systems designed to get Spurs off to a good start in the Premier League and a very young side, which is aimed towards longevity.
Pochettino has already made some good signings in the transfer market and he’s got a good chance to further improve the side, with plenty of time left to run in the transfer window.
There are positives in Liverpool doing business early, but there’s certainly no need for Tottenham to panic and a chance for them to really push on and make themselves a stronger candidate for the top four this coming season.
