Siem de Jong praises ‘good guy’ Georginio Wijnaldum following Newcastle move

Newcastle Friendly

The Dutch duo will be turning out for Newcastle next season.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Siem de Jong has assessed Georginio Wijnaldum in a positive fashion, following his move to St James’ Park.

De Jong said: “He’s a good player, he likes to be on the ball and he’s good offensively but also strong and can help defensively. So he’s quite a [versatile] player. He can play a couple of positions, so he can be a good contributor for the team. He’s a good guy. I know him well and he really wants to work hard and he could be good for us.”

Despite playing in the same position, de Jong and Wijnaldum will both be guaranteed playing time next year - and they could turn into a formidable midfield partnership.

De Jong is a more precise player, with vision to create chances at his will, whilst Wijnaldum is more physical in the tackle, whilst also possessing a great eye for goal - and a real winning mentality.

Both players will be well suited to the technical style of play that Steve McClaren is looking to bring to the Magpies, and signing Wijnaldum was a real statement of intent by the club - especially considering he was one of the best performing midfielders in Europe last season.

He could turn out to be one of the best signings of the summer, and de Jong clearly believes he has all the talent to succeed on Tyneside this coming season - and that is a truly promising thought for Newcastle fans.
