Redknapp suggests what Arsenal need to justify his confidence they can compete

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has explained that he's got a fancy for Arsenal to do well in the Premier League this season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT that he’s got a real fancy for Arsenal to do well this coming season.

Redknapp suggested that his old arch rivals are close to a genuine shot at the Premier League title, as Arsene Wenger looks to build on the success generated by back-to-back FA Cups over the last two years.

As always seems to be the case with Wenger, he’s been shrewd in terms of the players he’s targeted this summer, seemingly trusting the options he’s already got in key positions to improve and develop over the next ten months.

“I’ve got a real fancy for Arsenal if they can make another two signings – I think if Wenger can get another two in, they’ll be a real force this season. Certainly at the end of last season, they got players fit and they were playing well,” he told talkSPORT.

Where does Wenger still need bodies?

Redknapp has suggested that Arsenal are two players away from seriously contending for the title.

Those two players could come in defence and attack, with the opportunity to sign Morgan Schneiderlin having already passed, as the Frenchman has linked up with Manchester United.

Some extra support in the form of a centre back would be useful, backing up the arrival of Gabriel last winter and some extra support up front alongside Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck would also be important.

However, Wenger could also choose to use players he already has with Calum Chambers capable of playing through the middle of the defence and Theo Walcott proving at the end of last season, he can excel in the attack of the team.
