Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke remains a top transfer target for Liverpool, and Manchester United are also emerging as frontrunners.
The message was one praising the potential addition of Benteke, but at the same time insisting he would be a back-up for club captain Wayne Rooney.
What can be read into this?
Benteke favouriting the message is fact, but the reasons for him doing are unclear, and theories only speculative.
On one hand he may be happy to read he is wanted by Manchester United fans, and see it as a compliment that he is being regarded as foil for England international and established superstar Wayne Rooney.
From another perspective, it could be argued that Benteke is acknowledging he is not regarded as a true first choice by United fans, and could be using this as a factor in choosing Liverpool instead if it comes down to a choice between the players.
Liverpool have been substantially linked with Benteke, and today The Mail reported he was keen on a move to Anfield.
What is does show is that Benteke is aware of the interest in him, and from an Aston Villa point of view that can only be unsettling, for the striker, and for the progression of the club.
