Liverpool should break the bank for Alexandre Lacazette

The French striker would be the perfect signing for Liverpool.

Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of strikers already this summer but the one player they should break the bank for is Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.

The Reds now have a £49million windfall after Manchester City wrote a substantial cheque for Raheem Sterling, meaning manager Brendan Rodgers could do a little more business before the transfer window clams shut.

In truth Liverpool may have believed Sterling was going to leave this summer when they splashed the cash on the likes of Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne, but they are still likely to have money in reserve for the quality striker they need to complete their team.

Danny Ings’ arrival will certainly help, while Liverpool fans will be hoping Daniel Sturridge remains fit next season, but if Lacazette arrived the Reds would have the personnel to secure some much-needed silverware and return to the top four.

The 24-year-old is the perfect age to move on, young enough to be a good investment but old enough to bring experience to Liverpool’s forward-line.

Last season the French international scored a quite remarkable 31 goals in 40 matches and he has a total of 69 goals and 34 assists for the Ligue 1 club to date.

In short he is pure quality and if he is not already he will soon be considered world-class.

That is the kind of player Liverpool should be targeting and while he will not come cheap it would be a move that helps define Rodgers’ time in charge.

Liverpool have impressed with their summer signings and are on the verge of something great, and in Lacazette they would be buying the final piece of the puzzle.
