Arsene Wenger showed his admiration for Alex Iwobi by selecting him to start Arsenal's first tour game.
The 19-year-old played 72 minutes against a Singapore XI, linking up impressively with hat-trick hero Chuba Akpom.
Iwobi is the nephew of Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha, formerly of PSG, and Bolton Wanderers.
Okocha was watching Iwobi's attempts to make an impact, and took to Twitter to congratulate his relative...
Feeling head over hills watching my nephew Alex Iwobi live with Arsenal against Singapore eleven in preseason..great stuff son..— Jay-Jay Okocha (@IAmOkocha) July 15, 2015
Iwobi is an attacking midfielder who played the game on the left wing, and is an outsider to be part of Arsenal's first team squad next season.
His development accelerated over the past year, and he showed an eye for goal himself by netting a hat-trick for the under-21s late in the season.
From a family with footballing pedigree like Okocha it should be little surprise that he is so talented, and if he gets anywhere near emulating his uncle then Arsenal will have a true gem on their hands.
