Aston Villa Transfer round-up: Jordan Amavi deal close, Brad Guzan unsure of future

A selection of stories in the media involving Aston Villa in the last 24 hours…

Villa have agreed a fee with Ligue 1 side Nice for Jordan Amavi and Tim Sherwood is confident of pushing a deal through, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The left-back has been linked for a number of weeks and it appears the formalities now remain before a £9 million deal is completed.

Brad Guzan has admitted he has doubts over his future after the departure of Shay Given, in an interview with Goal USA.

The American stopper is currently with his national team at the Gold Cup and will wait until returning to Villa to sort out his future.

“What [Given's departure] means for me, I don't know. I'll worry about that when I get to England,” said the 30-year old.

Villa are amongst several clubs chasing Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford, and the race may have got that bit harder with Sheffield Wednesday now entering the fray, according to the Sheffield Star.

The Championship club are said to be undeterred by Premier League interest in the 21-year old and will go all out as they look for a return to the top flight.

Meanwhile, Tim Sherwood gave his take on why Christian Benteke will not be going to Liverpool this summer – citing the abundance of forwards already at the club, in quotes published by the Daily Mail.

"I think Liverpool have shown an interest but there’s not been a bid worth considering," said Sherwood.

"They’ve got six or seven strikers themselves at the moment - they’ ve just taken two new ones in as well!”

Finally, Barnsley starlet Mason Holgate who had been set for a £1 million move to Villa Park is now reportedly training with Manchester United.

The Red Devils have taken the promising right-back on trial, as reported in The Sun, and have all but ended Villa’s hopes of completing a deal.
