Pre-season games can be dull affairs, but there is nothing better for supporters to see than for a young player step up and seize their chance.
That is exactly what happened on Wednesday when young striker Chuba Akpom re-announced himself, scoring an impressive hat-trick in a 4-0 win over a Singapore XI.
Akpom was given a chance against New York Red Bulls a year ago during pre-season but failed to make the most of it; 12 months on it was a very different story.
He was coming off a very disappointing loan spell at Championship side Nottingham Forest in which he failed to score a single goal, so hitting the ground running in pre-season was crucial.
The striker linked up smartly with fellow youngster Alex Iwobi, scoring twice before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot. Jack Wilshere scored Arsenal's other goal, also a spot-kick.
Pre-season games need context of course, few who saw it will forget Yaya Sanogo scoring four against Benfica last summer at the Emirates Cup, and failing to kick on during the season.
Akpom has a chance of game time as long as Arsenal do not buy another alternative to Olivier Giroud up front; a move they are not looking like making at present.
If he continues to play like this when given a chance in a Gunners shirt, he will do his prospects no harm at all.
Here is a look at how Arsenal fans reacted to Akpom's display...
