Tottenham's Stambouli deal with PSG at risk due to interest in Axel Witsel

Tottenham's attempts to offload Benjamin Stambouli to PSG have hit an hitch, to the possible benefit of Watford.

PSG emerged as surprise suitors for Tottenham's Benjamin Stambouli earlier this week, potentially hijacking Watford's planned move for the midfielder.

The Mail has reported PSG have bid £6 million for the player, higher than the amount Watford were offering Spurs.

Stambouli may not be PSG's only option however, with interest in Axel Witsel being reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Witsel has been the subject on enquiries from AC Milan, but Tuttomercatoweb. have reported in the last few hours that PSG have initiated contact with the midfielder regarding his availability.

Witsel was a key part of former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas' Russian Premier League winning side last season, but is in demand and as such the race for his signature could have a knock on effect for AVB's old side if PSG follow up their enquiry.

The Belgian international would however cost as much as four times the price they have offered Tottenham for Stambouli, but at the same time they would be buying a more accomplished, and uncompromising defensive midfielder.

Spurs at least will have the option, they hope, of cashing in on Stambouli to Watford, and hoping PSG's interest will have driven his price up if the French champions do indeed look elsewhere.
