A player linked with both Leeds United and Watford is not taking it easy while he waits to find a new club.
The midfielder left Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season and while he is likely to be a lucrative free agent target for a number of clubs nothing has yet been agreed.
The Sun reported back in June that Leeds owner Massimo Cellino was prepared to pay Barton £1million-a-year in wages to tempt him to Elland Road, while bookmakers Ladbrokes later made Premier League new boys Watford favourites for the 32-year-old’s signature, with London 24 later suggesting the Hornets were indeed interested.
For how his next club remains a mystery, but the once-capped England international is not taking things easy this summer despite his current lack of an employer.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the alleged Leeds target wrote, “Gym session followed by some short interval runs. Back home for food and a rest now. Then might play nine holes if the weather holds out.”
The fact that Barton is maintaining his fitness bodes well for whichever club ultimately signs him, and while Watford’s top-flight status suggests they may be the more likely destination anything can happen when it comes to the transfer window.
