Middlesbrough up offer for Ipswich star Murphy

HITC Sport understands Middlesbrough have made a new bid for Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy after seeing their initial offer rejected.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy is the subject of an improved offer from Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough have targeted a move for last season's Championship top scorer as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season.

Aitor Karanka's men have already seen a bid of £4.5million turned down by Ipswich for Murphy as they look to try and keep their star striker at Portman Road.

Murphy scored 27 goals last season, including in both Championship meetings against Middlesbrough last season.

The Republic of Ireland international is entering the final year of his contract at Ipswich, but Mick McCarthy is reluctant to lose his top marksman as he looks to mount another bid for promotion next season.

Middlesbrough are short of strikers after seeing Patrick Bamford return to Chelsea from his loan spell and Jelle Vossen move to Burnley this summer at then end his loan stay from Genk and they hope to persuade Ipswich to sell Murphy with their improved bid.
