As debuts go it does not get much worse than Alex Baptiste's Middlesbrough bow.
The defender was stretchered off on his debut at the weekend, just 20 minutes into a pre-season friendly match against York.
It was a real sickener, and it was this week confirmed that the centre-back suffered a double leg fracture and has undergone leg surgery, as reported by The BBC.
The defender has just recently joined from Bolton Wanderers, having spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
He misses out on the club's pre-season training camp in Spain, and faces a battle to be back to make a telling impact this season.
Middlesbrough acted quickly to replace him, signing Tomas Kalas on loan from Chelsea after a successful spell last season.
Fans of the club were prompt in wishing Baptiste well, and the positive comments for the experienced defender came from rivals supporters of Championship clubs.
Here is a look at how fans reacted on Twitter to the 32-year-old's devastating injury blow...
At least when Baptiste gets back fit, it will be like a new signing all over again. My guess is January before we see him again. #Boro— Mark Harrison (@eightball80) July 11, 2015
