Manchester United transfer news: Valdes future in doubt; van Gaal's prime targets are Ramos and Lewandowski

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from the Telegraph, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has identified Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as his number one striker target this summer.

Robin van Persie recently left Old Trafford for Turkish side Fenerbahce and United will need to sign reinforcements given that former loanee Radamel Falcao also bid farewell earlier this summer.

That leaves only Wayne Rooney, James Wilson and Javier Hernandez as recognised strikers and doubts remain over the latter’s future.

The Telegraph claims that if United cannot get Lewandowski, Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani is an alternative.

The same report claims van Gaal’s first choice when it comes to a new centre-back is Sergio Ramos although Nicolas Otamendi is also in the frame.

In other news, the Guardian reports that Victor Valdes’s future at United could be in doubt after the Spaniard failed to travel with his teammates for their summer tour of the USA.

The player was reportedly not selected for the trip – rather than being ruled out by injury – suggesting his future could be elsewhere…especially if David de Gea remains at the club beyond the summer.
