After looking like relegation was the only outcome for much of last season, Leicester City ultimately soared to safety in fantastic style under the guidance of Nigel Pearson; however that was not enough to keep the manager in the job, and on Monday it was announced that the Foxes had replaced him with Italian Claudio Ranieri.
It may have taken Leicester two weeks to find Pearson’s successor, after his sacking on 30 June, but when it came it generated plenty of headlines.
Ranieri knows the Premier League well from his time in charge of Chelsea but the Tinkerman, as he is affectionately known for his constant changes in team selection, rarely stays anywhere for long.
The new Leicester boss has taken charge of 14 different clubs (the vast majority of which have been in Italy) during a career that has spanned three decades. He was also the coach of Greece’s national team prior to his return to England.
After the news we took to Twitter to see what Leicester fans thought of their new manager and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Although NP led The Great Escape, he also took us to the bottom of the table. Ranieri shows owners' ambition to do better than that. #lcfc— Nick Haycock (@cybernick56) July 14, 2015
Ranieri's record from 2000 is pretty solid. More than good enough for the position our club is at. Really hope it all works out.— Jake LCFC (@jake_lcfc) July 14, 2015
IMO the appointment of Ranieri is a massive risk, hopefully it will pay off - the owners have been good to us so we have to trust them #LCFC— Adam Tomlinson (@Tommo_Lcfc) July 13, 2015
Would love for someone to tell me exactly what it is that makes Ranieri a bad choice for #lcfc - seems a good fit on paper— Leigh Riley (@RiLeigh84) July 13, 2015
Someone please answer me this... Why is ranieri an 'awful' 'disappointing' and 'bad' appointment as manager? #lcfc— Joel (@JoelHalpine) July 13, 2015
