The former Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers boss thinks the striker would be a real asset for the Reds.
The Reds are keen to add a striker to their forward line this summer, with their current options having failed to impress last season and several looking likely to exit Anfield at some stage.
They have so far failed to sign another forward but have long been linked with Villa’s Belgian striker Benteke, with the Metro among those to report on the subject, although a bid is yet to be made as it seems Tim Sherwood’s side are holding out for a £32.5 million buy-out clause.
Redknapp, though, feels the burly frontman would a good signing for Brendan Rodgers regardless of the sizeable asking price.
“I think Christian Benteke would be a real powerhouse at Liverpool,” he wrote on Kicca.
“There are certain games he could do a bit more, but I think he’s a handful with the right players and the right service. On his day he is almost unplayable. He could be a real asset.”
While it is hard to tell if Benteke would be a good signing for Liverpool, he would certainly offer them something different.
He is markedly different to first choice Daniel Sturridge, with his physical build and ability in the air the complete opposite to what the England man brings to the side.
Those qualities would be undoubtedly useful to Rodgers’ side as it would give them another dimension to their game, with the early stages of last season having seen them struggle when sides figured out how to neutralise their Plan A.
Whether they are willing to part with so much money, though, to obtain a Plan B remains to be seen.
