Does PSG's late interest in Benjamin Stambouli prove Tottenham are missing a trick with Benjamin Stambouli.
Watford's attempts to sign Benjamin Stambouli have been hit by the surprise news French champions PSG want to sign the midfielder.
Stambouli struggled to get into the Tottenham side despite being hand picked by head coach Mauricio Pochettino. He as used mainly in cup competitions, and was on the brink of leaving the club for Watford, to follow Etienne Capoue.
The defensive midfielder was seen as a budget Morgan Schneiderlin when Spurs signed him, and it is still fair to argue he has not had a decent run at proving himself in the Premier League.
He played only 12 matches, accumulating a total of 453 minutes, working out at 37.5 minutes per Premier League appearance.
PSG's interest indicates there is a talented player in there, and Spurs may be acting rashly by letting him go too early.
At the same time a large offer may be too good to turn down, if the club are determined to cut their losses.
Stambouli will have to weigh up the advantages of regular football with Watford against a back-up role for PSG, even if there is the carrot of playing in the Champions League.
Here is a look at how Spurs fans reacted to the shock approach from PSG...
Imagine if PSG win the CL next season and Stambouli gets to lift that trophy? If that isn't Spursy, I don't know what is #THFC— Andrew Labib (@Andrew_Labib) July 13, 2015

PSG paid £50million for Luiz so Stambouli must be at least that. Probably add another 10.— Paul.I.Might.Be (@eralcluap) July 13, 2015
