Report: Southampton close to signing Jordy Clasie

Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Sunderland-linked Jordy Clasie will reportedly be a replacement for Manchester United-bound Morgan Schneiderlin.

Southampton are on the verge of signing Jordy Clasie from Feyenoord, according to Voetbal International.

It has been reported by the Dutch news outlet that the two clubs are nearing an agreement over the transfer of the 24-year-old midfielder.

The Saints and Feyenoord have been negotiating today and a decision could be made tomorrow, according to the report.

Voetbal International claims that Southampton will have to pay as much as €12.5 million (£8.9m) for the services of Clasie, who will be a replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin, who has left for Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Racing ahead

It seems that Southampton have beaten off competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Sunderland to the signature of Clasie.

The Netherlands international is on the radar of Newcastle, according to The Mirror, while The Telegraph and SoccerNews have linked him with Villa and Sunderland respectively.

Clasie scored two goals and created 40 chances in 32 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord last season.

The Dutchman had a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 38%, and won 17 headers, 18 dribbles and 75 tackles.
