According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are ready to call off their search for another goalkeeper, and instead keep Brad Guzan between the sticks.
Villa have been busy recently, signing the likes of Micah Richards, Mark Bunn and Idrissa Gueye, and whilst Bunn arrives to replace Shay Given in the goalkeeping ranks, many expected even more moves to strengthen that position.
After all, first choice stopper Brad Guzan was dropped from the starting line-up towards the end of last season, having cost Villa will a comical mistake in a defeat to Manchester City.
However, the Birmingham Mail now suggest that manager Tim Sherwood is ready to call off his pursuit of a new goalkeeper in order to stick with Guzan next season.
The United States international, 30, is now likely to start the season as Villa's first choice goalkeeper, giving him another chance to impress under Sherwood.
The right decision?
Guzan didn't cover himself in glory towards the end of last season, but keeping him in goal does make sense for a number of reasons.
The American has proven himself to be a top Premier League goalkeeper in the past, and given that all players suffer a loss of form at some point in their careers, Guzan deserves another chance to prove his quality.
Factor in that that Villa have other positions that they need to strengthen, and it becomes clear that Sherwood should look to spend his money elsewhere and look to trust Guzan rather than try to replace him this summer.
