The Romanian is out of favour at Spurs and looks sure to move on this summer.
But the deal looks to be back on track however, with negotiations continuing over the weekend and the Turkish champions are said to be confident of tying up a deal this week, again reported by the London Evening Standard.
Spurs are believed to want around £5 million for the centre-back who made just 18 appearances last season and Galatasaray are seemingly willing to match that figure.
The Romanian captain signed for just under £7 million two years ago and it appears Daniel Levy is willing to take a loss on another one of the ‘magnificent seven’ following Paulinho and Etienne Capoue’s sales earlier this summer.
Spurs have made a good start in terms of freeing up squad space but still have work to do, with the likes of Kaboul, Lennon and Adebayor still to be relocated.
It may be a case of having to sell before adding to the squad now for Spurs and if so, the White Hart Lane faithful will hope that the Turkish champions can get a deal over the line sooner rather than later.
