Emmanuel Adebayor's Tottenham Hotspur future could be about to turn sour, according to The Mirror.
The club vice-captain has not yet returned back for training, with it still unclear whether he is on leave, having been granted time off at the end of last season for personal issues.
He has one year remaining on his contract at the club, and says publicly he wants to stay.
The Togo international played only 13 times last season in the Premier League, and scored just two goals.
It appears as though he has exhausted his last chance at the club and Spurs are attempting to nudge him closer to the exit door.
He is a difficult player to shift due to his wages of around £100,000 per week, and even though The Guardian have linked Aston Villa with a swoop for the striker, Adebayor would have to agree to a drop in salary to make such a move happen.
Feeling really fresh after my goal. Can't wait to come back to Tottenham and show everyone the passion I have for the club... ctd/— Emmanuel Adebayor (@E_Adebayor) June 19, 2015
Just last month Adebayor expressed his desire to return to Spurs, after scoring an international goal for Togo.
It appears he could have even more of an uphill battle than he would have considered.
