Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has snubbed the chance to join Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer.

Micah Richards has taken to social networking site Twitter to make it clear that he did not have any influence on his Aston Villa teammate Fabian Delph regarding his decision to snub Manchester City.

Delph released a statement on Villa’s official website on Saturday stating that he will remain at Villa Park for the 2015-16 season.

The England international midfielder’s statement followed speculation that he was set to leave the Villans for Premier League rivals City.

The Guardian claimed on Friday that the Citizens were going to sign the former Leeds United star for just £8 million after activating his release clause.

Following Delph’s decision to remain at Villa, The Mirror published a report in which it was claimed that Richards and Scott Sinclair had advised him not to join City.

Richards moved to Villa earlier this summer after his contract with the Citizens ran out at the end of last season, while Sinclair made his loan deal from City to the Villans permanent in May.

Both the Englishmen had struggled to play regularly at City in recent years, but Richards has made it clear that he did not advise Delph against moving to the former Premier League champions.
