Manchester United transfer news: Cavani is van Gaal's first-choice to replace van Persie; Schneiderlin latest

Old Trafford

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United….

Manchester United’s transfer business burst into life over the weekend, with the club agreeing deals for Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian and now the BBC reporting that Morgan Schneiderlin has had a medical at Old Trafford.

The Southampton midfielder’s proposed move to United may have seemed less likely after Schweinsteiger’s arrival but it seems manager Louis van Gaal wants to completely revamp his midfield – and in truth it is about time.

The BBC claims that provided there are no unforeseen circumstances Schneiderlin will be a United player sooner rather than later.

In other news, Football Italia claims AS Roma have turned their attention to United right-back Rafael.

The Brazilian international was out of favour at United last season, rarely featuring in the first-team, and his time in England could well be coming to an end.

French newspaper L’Equipe reports that Paris Saint-Germain want to sign United’s £59.7million winger Angel di Maria.

However, the Ligue 1 club’s manager Laurent Blanc admits that financially it will be quite a challenge to get the deal over the line.

Then again, perhaps the move will be sweetened by Edinson Cavani’s arrival, with the Guardian reporting that van Gaal sees the Uruguayan front-man as the perfect replacement for the departed Robin van Persie.
