Leicester reportedly move ahead of Everton in race for Bakary Sako

Could Leicester City pip Everton to a free agent also said to be attracting interest from Aston Villa?

According to a report from the Express & Star, Leicester City have moved ahead of Everton in the race for free agent winger Bakary Sako.

The 27-year-old Mali international left Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of his contract and is now said to be eyeing a move to the Premier League.

With 38 goals and 36 assists in 124 matches for Wolves, he would be an interesting addition to either side, but with the report claiming Leicester are now favourites for his signature they could be getting an exciting, creative alternative to the player’s already on their books.

Last season Sako scored 15 goals and set up an additional 10 in the Championship and even with half those returns in the top flight he would prove to be a wonderful investment.

Everton may be looking to replace Kevin Mirallas if the Belgian international leaves this summer, but they may have to work harder if they are to keep him out of Leicester’s clutches.

The Express & Star claims Aston Villa are also interested so there could yet be a twist in the tale.

When so many millions are thrown around to bring in quality reinforcements, Sako has both the talent and the experience to be one of the smartest – and cheapest – signings of the summer. Plus with the way Leicester ended the previous campaign, there are likely to be a very attractive option for players seeking a step up.
