Freedman explains what he wants from all of Forest's pre-season fixtures

Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman wants to see a certain set of things from the club's pre-season games.

Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman told Forest Player what he’s looking for in all pre-season performances from the club.

Forest’s plans and schedule ahead of the new season are now fully underway and the Scot has moved to take some of the pressure away from his players, in terms of the significance of their pre-season performances.

“I’m not judging the results right now because I’ve chopped and changed the side – Some players are out of position. I’m looking for the effort, the attitude and making sure that the energy levels are high and we’ve got that – There’s no excuses here, the lads have been fantastic attitude wise so far,” Freedman told Forest Player.

Effort and attitude

The effort and attitude of the players will be interesting to judge because there is great competition for places in the Nottingham Forest squad with the return of the Championship now less than one month away.

New signings have come in and the regular first team players have linked back up with the club, which provides Freedman with a chance to judge who’s up for the challenge mentally and who might be struggling a little bit in terms of fitness.

The attitude and application of the players needs to be professional, but at the same time there’s a risk with any player pushing himself all out because of the risk of developing an early injury.

Energy levels

One of the things that Freedman will be very keen to see will be high energy levels.

He’ll want to see that gradual improvement in terms of energy and fitness, which will make the team confident and give the manager the confidence that his methods are being adhered to as the first Championship game looms in.
