The Reds have been heavily linked with the Belgian striker for some time, according to Sky Sports News, with it being well known that they are keen to add another forward to their attacking line ahead of next season.
Liverpool have already signed Danny Ings, but the likes of Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini failed to impress last season and look unlikely to have futures at the club.
The Merseyside outfit are also set to see Raheem Sterling leave the club in a big money move to Manchester City, according to BBC Sport, and Aldridge believes that his sale will see Villa stick out for as much money as possible for Benteke.
“I think from an Aston Villa perspective they can just sit tight now knowing that Liverpool have got near enough £40m from the Raheem deal,” Aldridge told Sky Sports News.
“They can stick to the clause in the contract and not budge. It becomes another game of cards. I think Liverpool won the game of cards with Sterling and his agent.
"If they do want Benteke then Villa have all the aces and Liverpool are going to have to pay top-notch.”
Would Benteke be a good signing for Liverpool?
While a deal seems unlikely to be concluded any time soon between the two clubs, it is undeniable that Benteke would be a good addition at Anfield.
Liverpool are seriously lacking in goals, and with Daniel Sturridge’s long-term fitness still unknown, a striker is necessary above everything else.
Benteke would certainly fit the bill, having been a proven goalscorer in the league over the last few seasons.
He would also provide manager Brendan Rodgers with something different in his armory, with his big and physical presence, as well as his ability in the air, something entirely different to what the club currently has.
