Former West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United defender Ferdinand comments on the signing of Schweinsteiger and Darmian by Manchester United.
Germany international midfielder Schweinsteiger has joined the Red Devils from Bundesliga champions Bayern, while Italy international defender Darmian has moved to the Premier League outfit from Serie A side Torino.
Former Manchester United, West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United defender Ferdinand believes that both are good signings for Louis van Gaal’s side.
Bastian: now MUFC have someone who can fill in for Carrick if out(important). LVG wants possession football-he suits perfectly. Great player— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) July 12, 2015
Darmian - only seen him a few times & looks a good addition. Solid when I have seen him. #MUFC— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) July 12, 2015
Bastian: I wasn't implying he would be a sub...1st choice obviously but no 1 stepped up when Carrick was out last season...The stats tell u— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) July 12, 2015
Schweinsteiger has suffered with injury problems of late, but he remains a world-class midfielder when fit.
The 2014 World Cup winner has worked with Louis van Gaal before, which means that the United boss knows what to expect from him.
An all-round midfielder, the 2013 Champions League winner will be a force to be reckoned with for United.
During his time at Torino, Darmian established himself as one of the better full-backs in Serie A.
The former AC Milan man featured in 33 league games for the Turin outfit last season, scoring two goals and creating 39 chances in the process.
The 25-year-old had a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 37%, and won 24 headers, 29 dribbles and 61 tackles.
