According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sports Italia, Napoli have joined a number of clubs in taking an interest in Barcelona’s out of favour defender Marc Bartra.
The Spanish international suffered last season as a result of heavy competition for places, making just 14 La Liga appearances and playing second fiddle to the likes of Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano.
With Jeremy Mathieu and former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen also in the reckoning, Bartra’s chances of featuring in the upcoming season are as slim as ever.
As a result, interest in his services has been touted in the press with both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly interested, according to an article published by Barcelona-based paper Diario Sport.
The Premier League duo, however, have now been joined by another potential suitor in Napoli, with reports from Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio's site suggesting contact has already been made over a possible Serie A transfer.
Should Marc Bartra consider a switch to Serie A giants Napoli?
While both Spurs and Liverpool represent solid options, Spanish players notoriously perform better in Europe’s more technical leagues and Serie A is the hotbed for talented defenders.
Marc Bartra isn’t likely to break into Barca’s first-team anytime soon, therefore he needs to decide how much he’s willing to risk in order to earn regular football elsewhere.
Napoli have seen an influx of La Liga players in recent years, largely thanks to former boss Rafa Benitez, therefore settling in shouldn’t pose a potential problem with a number of familiar faces at the club.
However, giving up guaranteed success at the Nou Camp plus the Barcelona lifestyle is a tricky proposition, though one which hasn’t deterred Europe’s biggest stars in the past.
