Could the talented forward be closing in on a move to Newcastle United?
Reported Newcastle United target Aleksandar Mitrovic has not been included in Anderlecht’s team for their pre-season friendly against Istanbul Basaksehir this weekend.
According to the Mirror, Newcastle are prepared to pay £12million for the Serbian front-man and he is considering a five-year deal to move to St James’ Park.
Well that move could be a little nearer with his current side opting not to play him in Sunday’s friendly match.
Football journalist Romain Van der Pluym has taken to Twitter to post a photograph of the alleged Newcastle target sitting out the action and although this is purely speculation it could be that Anderlecht do not want to risk the player getting injured if he is nearing a multi-million-pound exit.
Mitrovic is only 20 but he has already scored a very impressive 43 goals in 89 matches for the Belgian side.
Prior to that he netted 18 goals for Partizan Belgrade and there is no doubt he is a top talent who would greatly improve Newcastle’s striking options.
Until a deal is done Newcastle fans will understandably remain cautious but a player of Mitrovic’s talent and importance is not likely to sit out a match – even a pre-season game – unless there is a reason.
