Manchester United transfer news: Club want Navas and Ramos for De Gea; Benteke, Otamendi and Schneiderlin also on radar

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Saturday was a busy day for Manchester United with Italian right-back Matteo Darmian completing his move to Old Trafford shortly after a deal had been agreed for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

But it seems that is only the start of the summer spending spree at Old Trafford, with five more players linked with United in recent hours.

The Daily Star Sunday claims United will now target Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi as manager Louis van Gaal attempts to significantly strengthen his back-line.

The Argentina international would be a great addition to United’s squad but he will not come cheap, but he may not be the only defender to arrive.

Spanish newspaper Marca claims United have asked for Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos and goalkeeper Keylor Navas in exchange for David de Gea.

That would be quite a coup for van Gaal but in truth Real would be crazy to accept that potential option, especially with De Gea having only a year left on his current contract and the prospect of a free transfer just 12 months away.

Moving on, the Manchester Evening News claims United remain interested in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin despite the deal to sign Schweinsteiger.

It is being reported that United are still keen on the French international in what would be a complete transformation of their midfield.

And finally, the Sun claims United want to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke after van Gaal made the signing of a new quality front-man a priority this summer.
