Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Steven Gerrard’s LA Galaxy debut

The former Kop hero played 45 minutes in his new team’s 2-1 win over Club America.

Steven Gerrard has made his highly anticipated LA Galaxy debut, playing 45 minutes in his new team’s 2-1 win over Club America.

The Kop icon left the Anfield club this summer after a career playing for the Merseyside club and has left a major hole in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Jordan Henderson has been named as the Reds’ new captain and will have a significant job on his hands to replicate the influence and performances of Gerrard.

Gerrard put in a typical barnstorming performance in his first outing for the MLS side, with his trademark passion on the pitch and long passes there for all to see.

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in the aftermath of the game to express their pride, bewilderment and feelings on seeing Gerrard play for another club.

Some suggested that the veteran still could have had a role to play at Anfield, while most were happy that the midfielder had put in a good shift in his first appearance for the Galaxy.
