Ex-Liverpool star John Arne Riise criticises Raheem Sterling

The Norwegian has stated that the club and Brendan Rodgers deserve more respect than the contract rebel is giving them.

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has taken to Twitter to criticise Raheem Sterling over his perceived desire to leave Anfield.

As per The Telegraph, the England international’s future on Merseyside is a major doubt, with Manchester City loitering and hoping to convince the Reds to part company with their prize asset.

With Sterling missing a number of training sessions this week, ex-Red Riise has moved to criticise the 20-year-old on social media.

The Norwegian has stood up for the Anfield club and feels that Brendan Rodgers deserves more respect than he has received.

The Northern Irishman has played a key role in developing Sterling into the player that he currently is, with the star man used as a striker, number ten and on the wing last season.

Sterling has been included in the Liverpool travelling contingent to play in Thailand, Malaysia and Australia in pre-season and as such will depart with the rest of the group today.

The England international admitted earlier this year that he had spurned the chance to pen a new contract with the Reds, with his future potentially lying elsewhere as a result.
