Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will reportedly step up his pursuit of Kevin Mirallas now he has sorted out his defence
After strengthening his defence already this summer, Mauricio Pochettino will now will step up his pursuit of Everton's Kevin Mirallas, as per the Mirror. The Belgian impressed in spells throughout the previous season, ending the campaign with seven goals in just 18 first-team starts.
Reports suggest that the Goodison Park club will look for around £3.5million from Tottenham to seal a switch for the player - who's relationship with manager Roberto Martinez has broken down in recent months - with former England international Aaron Lennon set to move in the opposite direction.
Mirallas took to pre-season in style on Saturday, scoring twice in just 45 minutes as the Toffees brushed aside a young Swindon team. The Belgian proved the stand-out player, with his arrival sparking the Toffees into life. Following a goal-less first half, the Robins' were powerless to deny their visitors in the second.
Is this deal likely to happen?
A transfer to Tottenham this summer is conceivable for Mirallas this summer, but not for the prices being quoted. A key player for the Toffees, who is also a fully fledged international for the second highest-ranked team in the world, it would be ludicrous to suggest that Roberto Martinez cannot command a higher return for someone of his quality.
It is important to note that, while he may only have just a year left on his current deal at Goodison Park, the 27-year-old's contract also contains an option in Everton's favour to extend his deal for a further year. This, of course, would prevent him leaving for nothing at the end of the upcoming season.
