According to a Saturday evening report in the Mirror, Arsenal are tracking Manchester United’s Jonny Evans ahead of a potential move for the £10 million-rated centre-back.
The Northern Irish international’s future at Old Trafford is in doubt after seemingly falling out of favour with boss Louis van Gaal, featuring just 14 times in the Premier League last season.
With Arsenal having completed the signing of Petr Cech, Arsene Wenger is now seemingly seeking further additions in each of the positions along the team’s spine.
That includes the scope of a potential new centre-back addition, although the club currently boast a number of options including Calum Chambers and January signing Gabriel Paulista.
Presumably only a player with real qualities that could improve the first-team would be under consideration, hence the evident surprise in North London when United’s Jonny Evans cropped up in the rumour mill.
As per a previous analysis piece conducted by HITC, the 27-year-old doesn’t exactly come out favourably when compared with regular centre-back duo Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
While Evans may be considered a real coup for an established top-flight side, the Gunners are genuine title challengers where only talented youngsters or top players should now be considered as transfer options.
Does Evans fit into one of those categories? Well, here is what a section of the Arsenal support had to say on the matter, venting their opinion on social networking site Twitter:
Arsenal fans laughing at the Jonny Evans rumours. It's happened before! Look at when we took Silvestre, god awful. Could happen again #afc— AFC Followers (@AFC_Followers) July 11, 2015
As for people who are believing Arsenal want Jonny Evans, take a long hard look at yourself. I'd rather take Squillaci and Cygan back! #AFC— Alex Batt (@AlexBatt) July 11, 2015
