The Manchester United midfielder feels the double swoop sends a strong message to United's rivals.
Herrera, who moved to Old Trafford last summer in a deal reported by the Daily Mail among many others to be worth £28 million, was one of the first United players to react on Twitter to confirmation the German and Italian had joined Louis van Gaal's team.
And the 25-year-old is hoping the club's summer recruitment can give them a head-start on their opposition.
Unfortunately for Manchester United fans, where their players may have been able to win titles based on their number of Facebook and Twitter followers since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, they have been nowhere near title contenders on the pitch.
That being the case, any strong messages from the likes of Herrera and co on social media must be taken with a pinch of salt.
The Schweinsteiger and Darmian signings have, however, addressed two key positions that needed strengthening at Old Trafford. There are doubts about the former's recent injury record and whether he is past his best but, at the end of the day, Manchester United needed a new central midfielder.
They also needed a new right-back - and duly got one.
