The Spanish international’s future was placed under doubt ahead of the summer, largely due to the fact that he struggled for game time as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez consolidated first-team roles at the Camp Nou.
However, a recent contract extension seemingly put the doubts over his future to bed, the 27-year-old agreeing on a new deal which will see him remain at the Nou Camp until 2019.
Or will it? Mundo Deportivo claim his new deal has seen his release clause drop from almost £108 million to roughly £21.6 million, an amount which could tempt potential suitors into making a bid.
Is Barcelona star Pedro a potential bargain at £21.6 million?
At 27 years of age, Pedro has plenty of years left at the top of his game and would be a fine addition for almost any club, especially at such a reasonable price.
While not perhaps a natural goalscorer in the mould of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez or Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino (although yet to prove himself in the Premier League), the Catalan favourite does have unique creative qualities.
His movement and passing ability create space for his fellow attackers, while his ball retention and dribbling skills are as good as any Spanish winger in recent history. Naturally, that fits the Barca mantra quite well.
The La Masia product has contributed to 35 La Liga goals via goals and assists over the past two years, the sort of statistics that would go down very well at the Emirates or Anfield.
