According to The Sun, Aston Villa are close to completing a deal to sign Barnsley defender Mason Holgate, with the teenager set to become Villa's fifth summer signing.
Villa have already snapped up the likes of Mark Bunn, Micah Richards, Idrissa Gueye and Scott Sinclair, with manager Tim Sherwood re-tooling his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Both full back positions will now be a priority for Sherwood, and a deal to bring in a right back could be close to completion in the coming days.
The Sun believe that Barnsley defender Mason Holgate is on the verge of a move to Villa Park, with the teenage defender poised to leave the League One club.
Holgate, 18, played 22 games for Barnsley having come up through the youth system at Oakwell, and his performances have triggered interest.
Villa are now reportedly set to sign Holgate in the coming days, with Sherwood once again trusting his ability to work with an develop young players.
Can Holgate make an impact next season?
Holgate has just one season of League One experience under his belt, meaning a jump straight into regular Premier League football could be daunting.
However, with Sherwood at the helm, Villa are likely to trust young players in the first team - just as they did with Jack Grealish towards the end of last season.
With a number of average full backs at Villa, Holgate would have a chance to impress under Sherwood, even if he would initially be arriving as one for the future at Villa Park.
