Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV Eindhoven.
Latest Newcastle United signing Georginio Wijnaldum has been pictured for the first time as a Magpies player following his switch from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven.
The attacking midfielder arrived on Tyneside on Friday to undergo his medical, before completing his move on Saturday, as Steve McClaren agreed the highest deal of the Mike Ashley era at an impressive £14.5million - as reported by BBC Sport.
This sees the Dutch international, who captained PSV to the Eredivisie title last season and was named Dutch player of the year, sign a five-year deal at St James' Park.
Wijnaldum's arrival represents a significant coup for McClaren, who will be desperate to improve on the club's 2014/15 finish.
Under Alan Pardew and then John Carver, the Toon came desperately close to a return to the Championship - a scare the former England head coach will be eager to avoid.
Nonetheless, with signings like Wijnaldum, this is unlikely to happen.
With 14 goals to his name last term, he outscored every single player at St James' Park, while he fashioned a further 41 key passes - a tally only bettered by Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko. He brings a new dimension to the club's midfield, that will provide a tremendous boost moving forward.
This deal can be seen as a personal victory for McClaren, who has links with the Dutch international following his time spent working in the Eredivisie. The 24-year-old is a fine addition to a club, whose fans will be hoping for success next season.
