Could Newcastle United be about to swap one Frenchman for another?
Cabella only arrived at Newcastle last summer, the Magpies signing the play-maker for £12million from Montpellier, but despite his price-tag and his innate ability the 25-year-old has struggled to replicate his best from since moving to England.
The Daily Mail claims Cabella is unlikely to join Newcastle on their pre-season tour of the USA due to a thigh problem, and that he is unhappy after failing to settle thus far.
That could still change but it is being suggested that Newcastle may instead use him as a bargaining chip in their attempt to strengthen their squad with a fresh face.
Thauvin is a 22-year-old right winger who can also play on the opposite flank or as an attacking midfielder if required.
He has featured 79 times so far for Marseille, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists in the process.
Last season he netted five and set up an additional seven in 37 appearances and it will be quite a coup if Newcastle do manage to bring him to the club.
The youngster has appeared 10 times for the France under-21 side, scoring six goals in the process and his innate talent, versatility and potential to develop all suggest Newcastle would be making a sensible move.
But will Marseille want to do business, and even if they do will they want to take Cabella back to France as part of the deal?
