Manchester City fans react on Twitter to snub from Aston Villa's Fabian Delph

The midfielder was reportedly close to a Manchester City move, but has now committed his future to Aston Villa.

In what will be music to the ears of every Villa fan, Fabian Delph has released a statement, via the clubs official website, pledging his commitment to the club and revealing his excitement for the coming season at Villa Park.

Manchester City looked to have had a deal wrapped up, as reported by the likes of BBC Sport, but will now need to look elsewhere if they are to bolster their midfield options.

The 25-year old would have added to City’s home-grown quota, but it appears the player wasn’t content to move on those terms and prioritised regular playing time over a big money move, with one eye on next year’s European Championships with England.

Fernando and Fernandinho have failed to truly impress in their time at The Etihad, and Yaya Toure showed signs of a waning influence towards the end of last season.

Delph would have brought a welcome energy and bite in the centre of the pitch, but City can only wonder what might have been after his snub.

City fans were quick to voice their opinion on Twitter, with many questioning how big a role he would have played for The Blues.
