In what will be music to the ears of every Villa fan, Fabian Delph has released a statement, via the clubs official website, pledging his commitment to the club and revealing his excitement for the coming season at Villa Park.
Manchester City looked to have had a deal wrapped up, as reported by the likes of BBC Sport, but will now need to look elsewhere if they are to bolster their midfield options.
The 25-year old would have added to City’s home-grown quota, but it appears the player wasn’t content to move on those terms and prioritised regular playing time over a big money move, with one eye on next year’s European Championships with England.
Delph would have brought a welcome energy and bite in the centre of the pitch, but City can only wonder what might have been after his snub.
City fans were quick to voice their opinion on Twitter, with many questioning how big a role he would have played for The Blues.
Below is a selection of the City reaction:
Wouldn't be surprised if Delph had half an eye on the Euro's next year. Unlikely he would be picked if he wasn't playing enough club games!— Tom (@Toggers87) July 11, 2015
Not that disappointed about Delph as rather we spent the money on a game changing world class player #sortittixi— Gareth Ingleby (@garethingleby79) July 11, 2015
We didn't sign Delph what a relief— Finley White (@finleymcfcwhite) July 11, 2015
Cheers delph saved city £8mil since you know you was gonna warm the bench anyway— Michael Partington (@MichaelBlueMoon) July 11, 2015

I was all for delph joining but if he wants to play for a mid table/fighting relagation team then career suicide to him— Blaise Caffrey (@Caffreymcfc) July 11, 2015
