Both Reds defenders had found themselves out of favour at the end of last season, with Johnson's contract having expired at Anfield and Enrique now being left out of the club's pre-season tour.
As reported by the BBC, Johnson is set to join Stoke ahead of next season, prompting Enrique to send him a warm message on social media.
Congratulations my friend for your move to stoke. I wish you all the best you deserve my friend. Take… https://t.co/nDXR3KItDp— José enrique (@Jesanchez3) July 11, 2015
The missing word there is 'care' (which shows up on the Instagram post, along with a picture of Johnson in action). Interestingly, former Reds left-back Jon Arne Riise recently criticised Enrique for being too active on social media instead of on the pitch for Liverpool.
There is also irony, meanwhile, in that Johnson's last real moment of value for Liverpool was his diving header that ended up securing a 1-0 win against Stoke. But the Potters got revenge and maybe the right-back saw something in their 6-1 win over the Reds on the last day of the season.
For all the mockery Johnson has received from Liverpool fans in recent years, he's joining the team that thrashed the Reds in their last Premier League game. It's no bad move at all for 30-year-old.
