So Georginio Wijnaldum is finally a Newcastle player - and he's proud to be one, according to his official Twitter account.
As per the BBC, the Dutchman has arrived on Tyneside for £14.5 million - meaning Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is finally splashing the cash at St James' Park.
Is it a trend that will last? And will spending equate to success for the Magpies?
More signings are expected and you certainly can't sniff at the fee Newcastle have paid for the 24-year-old.
After the disastrous nature of last season, fans will no doubt need far more to be convinced by Ashley and the club's hierarchy. But this is certainly a strong start in the transfer market to Steve McClaren's reign as head coach.
It took Newcastle long enough - they have lagged behind their rivals until now as this is only their first signing. But Wijnaldum always looked destined for the Magpies from the moment he was linked.
Who next for Newcastle and what next? Big things will be expected from the Dutchman considering his fee. And, if he delivers, things could just be on the up at St James' Park...
