Celtic defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 in a pre-season friendly.
Celtic continued their Champions League preparations with an impressive morale-boosting 1-0 victory over La Liga outfit Real Sociedad on Friday evening.
The Scottish champions fielded a strong side, with boss Ronny Delia lining up with Leigh Griffiths in the lone striker role in front of an attacking midfield trio familiar with the Celitc supporters.
The notable absentee was Virgil van Dijk who, was presumably left out as fellow centre-backs Charlie Mugrew and Dedryk Boyata are expected to start their European clash on Wednesday.
The Hoops had to be patient in the early stages as David Moyes’s side dominated possession and looked surprisingly bright considering this was their first run-out since last season.
Yet, it wasn’t long until Celtic built up a head of steam and nearly took the lead just before half-time, Boyata heading over a corner from close range.
The 23-year-old wasted little time in making a positive impression in Celtic colours, providing an assist for his former Tannadice team-mate Gary Mackay-Steven via a clever layoff.
The final 20 minutes passed by quickly, and the final whistled was greeted with content as Delia now looks ahead to the first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round tie against Stjarnan.
