The Gunners manager also believes that the keeper's addition will add belief to the Emirates Stadium ranks.
The Gunners moved quickly to secure the former Chelsea man last month when it became apparent that he was looking for a route out of Stamford Bridge.
That desire for an exit came on the back of seeing his first-team opportunities seriously reduced last season as youngster Thibaut Courtois returned from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid and impressed as Jose Mourinho’s number one.
Cech still has a lot to offer, though, and Wenger is hoping that he will bring key qualities to the Emirates Stadium ranks.
“You always want to improve the experience level of your squad and I thought he could help us gain something on that front,” he told arsenal.com.
“I still think he has a huge hunger. When I saw him with Chelsea last year he was always convincing and I’m happy that we could do it. His kind of knowledge and experience can help us.”
The signing has added to the optimism built up last season as the Gunners made a mockery of their poor form at the beginning of the season to go on a fine run over the second half of the campaign to finish third in the table and secure successive FA Cup triumphs.
And Wenger says the goalkeeper’s experience of winning trophies will improve the mental strength of his side.
“He has huge experience and the fact that he has won more big trophies can strengthen the belief of the team,” he added.
