Leeds United manager Uwe Rosler has told the club's official Audioboo channel that Sol Bamba and Lee Erwin were the standout performers against Harrogate Town.
The Whites kicked off their pre-season preparations with a trip to Harrogate Town this evening, with players looking to build their fitness levels ahead of the new Championship season.
A 1-1 draw may not have been what Rosler wanted in his first game in charge, but the German saw Leeds fight back from a goal down, with Steve Morison scoring a second half equaliser from a Souleymane Doukara cross.
The result won't bother Rosler too much, and he singled out two of his new signings for praise after the game. Defender Sol Bamba joined the club permanently from Palermo after a loan spell last season, whilst striker Lee Erwin arrived from Motherwell after impressing in Scotland.
Rosler praised the duo in his post-match interview, though did say youngster Erwin still has some things to learn, noting that he was an 'exciting prospect'.
"I think Sol Bamba, in the second half, was fantastic. That is how I wish my defenders competed," said Rosler. "Lee Erwin has shown glimpses of why we got him. I think he looks an exciting prospect. He has to learn about the game, but there was a lot of positives."
Could Erwin make a big impact this coming season?
Erwin, 21, ended last season in fine form for Motherwell, and his goalscoring exploits handed him a move to Leeds, where he is seen as one for the future.
Yet with Mirco Antenucci finishing last season as Leeds' top goalscorer with ten goals, Erwin certainly has the chance to make an impact in the first team given Leeds' lack of a consistent goalscorer last term.
Fellow new signing Chris Wood will help in that regardd, but Erwin could be the surprise package for Leeds, with little expectation on the youngster's shoulders - and Rosler's praise for him tonight shows that he is highly regarded in the manager's eyes, which could see him given an opportunity to impress not only in pre-season but also when league action begins.
