According to Torino coach Giampiero Ventura, the former AC Milan and Palermo full-back is on his way to Premier League giants Manchester United.
“We have worked together for some time,” The Guardian quotes Ventura as saying.
“Because of his desire, humility and will to achieve things, it’s right to grant him the opportunity to realise a dream to play in the Champions League in a team that will fight to win it.”
Karlsen, a former chief executive and sporting director of Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, rates Darmian highly, as his following posts on Twitter show:
Matteo Darmian at £13M is a decent deal for Man Utd IMO. More of a wing-back than a full-back, but well-suited to LvG's thinking (1/3)— Tor-Kristian Karlsen (@karlsentk) July 10, 2015
Perhaps not a world beater, but a solid squad addition. Versatile, enthusiastic, plays with the intensity required to get by in the PL (2/3)— Tor-Kristian Karlsen (@karlsentk) July 10, 2015
Not without flaws defensively, yet has never struck me as a liability. Surely being signed for attacking game & tactical flexibility (3/3)— Tor-Kristian Karlsen (@karlsentk) July 10, 2015
Good signing for Manchester United?
Darmian has been on the books of Torino since 2011 and has established himself as one of the better full-backs in Serie A.
The Italy international featured in 33 league games for the Turin outfit last season, scoring two goals and creating 39 chances in the process.
The 25-year-old had a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 37%, and won 24 headers, 29 dribbles and 61 tackles.
