Report: Newcastle interested in Tottenham-linked Steve Mandanda

Steve Mandanda

Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are all reportedly interested in Steve Mandanda of Marseille.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Steve Mandanda from Marseille this summer, according to Eurosport.

It has been reported that the Magpies are looking at the France international goalkeeper as a possible summer signing if they lose Tim Krul to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Hugo Lloris is the first-choice custodian at Spurs at the moment, but he is on the radar of European giants Manchester United, according to the report.

A recent report in The Mirror claimed that Tottenham themselves are looking at Mandanda as a potential replacement for Lloris, while Le10sport has credited Crystal Palace with an interest in the 30-year-old.

Good signing?

Mandanda has been on the books of Marseille since 2007, when he joined them from French rivals Le Havre.

The 30-year-old is considered as one of the better goalkeepers in Ligue 1, and he would be an able replacement for Krul - if indeed the Netherlands international leaves St. James’ Park this summer.

However, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle are able to convince Mandanda to sign for them.

The Frenchman is used to challenging for top honours and playing in the Champions League, while the Magpies narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season.
